TAEKWONDO

Sparring Kids

Taekwondo is a traditional Korean form of martial arts that focuses on building a strong mind and body. Classes consist of training in sparring, kicking, board breaking, poomse (forms), self-defense, and weapons.

Students enter the dojang as a no belt and work their way up to their first belt, the white belt. At every level of promotion, students are expected to learn cultural, physical, and emotional mastery of lessons provided by Grandmaster Choi, masters, and instructors. Belt advancement requires a pre-testing period in order to ensure candidacy for the next belt level. Attendance is also required in order to advance. Two classes are recommended, per week, to keep up with curriculum. Classes are available every weekday between 3 pm and 6 pm. See the schedule page for exact times for each location.

Please note: There will be no classes, camp or practices on days deemed unsafe by county inclement weather guidelines.

About Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that combines powerful kicks, fast hand techniques, and precise movements. It is more than just a sport or self-defense system — it is a way to build discipline, confidence, and respect for oneself and others. Practitioners train both body and mind, learning to stay focused, persevere through challenges, and approach life with a positive spirit.

History of Taekwondo
The roots of Taekwondo trace back over 2,000 years to ancient Korea, where martial arts such as Taekkyeon and Hwa Rang Do were practiced by warriors for self-defense and physical conditioning. In the mid-20th century, following the Korean War, several martial arts masters came together to unify these traditional techniques with modern training methods, giving birth to what we now call Taekwondo.
In 1955, the name “Taekwondo” — meaning “the way of the foot and fist” — was officially adopted. Since then, Taekwondo has spread worldwide, becoming one of the most popular martial arts and even earning a place as an Olympic sport.

Benefits of Taekwondo
Training in Taekwondo offers a wide range of benefits for children, teens, and adults:

  • Physical Fitness: Improves strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination while providing a full-body workout.

  • Self-Defense Skills: Develops practical techniques for personal safety and confidence in real-life situations.

  • Discipline & Focus: Builds mental resilience, goal-setting skills, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

  • Confidence & Respect: Encourages students to respect themselves, their instructors, and others — a key part of martial arts philosophy.

  • Stress Relief: Physical activity and mindful training help release stress and improve overall well-being.

Whether you’re looking for a fun way to get in shape, a safe environment for your child to build character, or a new challenge for yourself, Taekwondo offers something for everyone.
